Fire District Maintains Strong Call Volume, Equipment Readiness

Spread the love

The Manhattan Fire Protection District is maintaining steady emergency response capabilities while addressing routine equipment maintenance needs across its two-station operation.

Deputy Chief Dave Piper’s April operational report showed continued strong call volume and staffing management, with detailed analysis of incident locations and response times. The report format allows trustees to request additional data points for future presentations, ensuring the board receives relevant performance information.

Battalion Chief Boyle reported that fleet maintenance remains on track with the new Tahoe expected back in service next week following equipment installation. However, the district is addressing some infrastructure challenges, including generator problems at Station 83 and the need to replace operator door openers on several apparatus bay doors.

The district’s fire prevention efforts continue expanding with the pending opening of the Peotone Holiday Inn Express. Boyle has worked with the hotel through the approval process, and firefighters are receiving specialized training on the building’s systems and layout to ensure effective emergency response.

Solar energy development continues throughout the district’s coverage area, with multiple projects moving forward. The district also maintains ongoing communication with St. Joseph’s school regarding safety and fire prevention matters.

The equipment and facility updates reflect the district’s proactive approach to maintenance and preparedness, ensuring reliable emergency response capabilities across both Manhattan and Peotone communities.
