MUNICIPAL UPDATES

Memorial Day Services Planned: The I Honor Banner Ceremony will take place Sunday at 10 a.m. at the Manhattan Township Building, 230 S. Wabash Street. The ceremony dedicates banners honoring local military veterans who served in the U.S. military.

Village Hall Closure: The Village Hall will be closed Monday, May 26, in observance of Memorial Day.

Meeting Schedule Change: The next village board meeting is Tuesday, June 3, at the new start time of 5:30 p.m.

E-Newsletter Launch: The village’s first electronic newsletter was recently distributed and will continue monthly. Residents can sign up to receive updates about village activities, meeting summaries, and community events.

COMMUNITY EVENTS

Cruise Night Returns: The first cruise night of the season is scheduled for June 10 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. downtown in the Wabash parking lot. Sponsors include Nick Fellers State Farm, EarthRise Energy, Xfinity, Manhattan Chamber of Commerce, and Surf Internet.

Community Garage Sales: The annual community-wide garage sales are set for June 13-14 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Registration is due by June 6 to Village Clerk Shelly Lewis. Maps will be available online and at Berkot’s and Ace Hardware.

Cop on a Rooftop Success: The recent Cop on a Rooftop fundraiser at Dunkin’ raised over $3,200 despite power outages during the event. The associated run will take place June 16 in Joliet.

INFRASTRUCTURE UPDATES

Dog Park Progress: The concrete company is scheduled to complete work on the new dog park, with fencing installation beginning after a two-day curing period. The fence company has already installed poles for the project.

Baker Road Lighting: Street light installation on Baker Road has been delayed but is expected to begin Tuesday with pole and arm installation.

Well 7 Project: The village’s Well 7 project is progressing with completion of the 25-foot backwash pit excavation. Water main connections from Monee to the new well site are also complete.

Storm Response Praised: Multiple trustees thanked fire, police, and public works departments for their response to recent severe weather, with all reported issues addressed promptly.
