Kelly Gibbons Named Chairperson of Manhattan Planning and Zoning Commission
The Manhattan Village Board appointed Kelly Gibbons as chairperson of the Planning and Zoning Commission for a two-year term running through May 1, 2027.
Gibbons, who already serves as a member of the planning commission, will take over the leadership role in the body that reviews development proposals and zoning matters for the village.
Trustee Justin Young praised the appointment during Tuesday’s meeting, describing Gibbons as “a very bright woman with a really good background” who will “do really well leading that planning commission.”
The Planning and Zoning Commission plays a crucial role in Manhattan’s development process, reviewing subdivision proposals, zoning requests, and other land use matters before they proceed to the village board. The commission’s recommendations help guide village decision-making on development issues.
Young expressed confidence that Gibbons will provide strong leadership for the commission as Manhattan continues to experience growth and development pressure. The two-year term provides stability for the commission’s leadership while allowing for regular evaluation of the position.
The appointment reflects the village’s effort to ensure experienced and capable leadership on boards and commissions that handle important municipal functions. Planning and zoning decisions can have long-term impacts on community character and development patterns.
Gibbons’ background and experience with the commission make her well-suited to guide the body’s work on development review and planning matters. The unanimous board approval indicates confidence in her ability to lead the commission effectively.
