The Manhattan Fire Protection District is looking to formalize a partnership with area villages to strengthen fire prevention and code enforcement.
During his report at the June 16 board meeting, Battalion Chief Bruce Boyle announced that the district is considering a possible Intergovernmental Agreement (IGA) focused on public safety. Under the potential agreement, the fire district would work collaboratively with the villages it serves to conduct inspections and reviews related to fire codes.
“The Village would maintain the codes and we would help enforce the codes and work collaboratively,” Boyle explained. He emphasized that the fire prevention team is already investing significant time in working with both villages.
The goal of the IGA would be to create a more unified and effective approach to fire safety, ensuring that building codes are consistently applied and enforced. Boyle noted that the initiative is part of the district’s ongoing effort “to help provide for a safer community.” The board took the report under consideration as discussions continue.
