MANHATTAN — The Manhattan School District 114 board meeting on Wednesday included a moment of celebration as the Manhattan Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) presented the district with a check for $20,000.
A PTO representative named Sam addressed the board, announcing the substantial donation raised through the organization’s efforts. “We are donating $20,000 back to 114,” she said, explaining that the amount would be split into approximately $5,000 per school.
Superintendent Dr. Damien Aherne introduced the representative, praising the PTO for its hard work and commitment. “Our entire PTO is extremely hardworking and thanks to the support of the community raises a great deal of money,” Dr. Aherne said. “They take a part of their what it is that they profit and they donate it to our schools.” He added, “I can speak on behalf of our principals how grateful we are and how useful that money is to go directly to the kids.”
Board President John Burke also expressed the board’s gratitude. “Manhattan has always been blessed to have a fantastic PTO program and obviously quite generous,” he said.
In accordance with district policy, the board held a formal vote to accept the gift, which exceeded the $500 threshold requiring board approval. The motion passed unanimously.
