Manhattan Village Board Briefs
Bank Letters of Credit: The board approved a resolution rescinding demand for payment on certain letters of credit for Banks Farm Development’s Villas of Prairie Trails project. The bank provided updated letters of credit to the village after the original demand was made but before the expiration date.
Banking Authorization Update: Village board updated authorized signers for dispersing village funds to include the village administrator, finance director, and deputy clerk. Two signatures are required for each payment under the new authorization.
Light Tower Partnership: The village is considering allowing a local football team to use village light towers for practice for five to six weeks. In exchange, the team would volunteer to park cars at Labor Day festivities and help with Irish Fest cleanup. The arrangement would save the village up to $500 it typically pays for parking assistance.
Water System Improvements: New fire hydrants have been installed behind Brent Drive as part of a water system loop project. Public Works Director explained the hydrants help keep water fresh and provide backup water flow if breaks occur elsewhere in the system. All hydrants are located in utility easements, not on private property.
St. Joe’s Fundraiser Success: A recent fundraiser at St. Joe’s raised over $9,000, according to board member reports during the meeting.
Upcoming Events: The village’s Sip of Summer event is scheduled for June 25. Board members also noted the success of the recent cruise night and first car show events.
Executive Session: The board held an executive session for probable imminent litigation but took no action following the closed session.
Meeting Minutes: Approval of June 3 meeting minutes was postponed to allow addition of comments from Trustee Lucinda Neighbors that were inadvertently omitted from the original draft.
