Article Summary: The Manhattan Park Board has approved a three-year lease agreement for a new skid steer, a versatile piece of equipment intended to support the district’s growing park maintenance needs across its facilities. The board discussed budgeting and financing options before unanimously approving the agreement.

Skid Steer Lease Key Points:

  • The board approved a three-year lease agreement with McCann Industries Inc. for a new skid steer.

  • The agreement was passed via Resolution 25-6 after discussion among the board members.

  • A skid steer will assist with a wide range of park maintenance duties, such as grading, landscaping, and moving materials.

The Manhattan Park Board on Thursday, July 10, 2025, approved a three-year lease for a new skid steer to enhance its operational capabilities in maintaining the district’s parks and properties.

The board voted 4-0 to pass Resolution 25-6, which authorizes a lease agreement with McCann Industries Inc. According to the meeting minutes, “Discussion was held amongst the board regarding the budget for this purchase and the best option to finance it.”

The new equipment will be a significant asset for the Parks and Operations department, which handles a wide variety of tasks across the district. A recent monthly report detailed numerous projects where such machinery is essential, including grading and seeding at Ivanhoe Park, berm construction at Round Barn Farm, and general landscaping work. Staff also noted ongoing skid steer training for personnel in its July report, indicating a readiness to integrate the new equipment into its operations.

The decision to lease rather than purchase outright reflects a strategic approach to managing the district’s capital expenses while ensuring staff has the modern tools needed to maintain the community’s parks.
