JOLIET, IL – Several small businesses in Frankfort and Green Garden townships received the go-ahead for their operations from the Will County Board on Thursday. The board unanimously approved special use permits for a landscaping business and two restaurants seeking to add liquor service.

In Green Garden Township, a special use permit was granted to Maria and Felipe Valladares to operate a landscaping and lawn maintenance business on their 5-acre agricultural property at 9003 W. Stuenkel Road. According to planning documents, the owners received nine letters of support from neighbors, and the Green Garden Township board had no objections to the permit. The approval comes with several conditions, including rules for on-site storage of landscape waste and wood, and requirements for managing potential odors.

In Frankfort Township, the board approved two separate requests for ancillary liquor service. The first permit was for Kismet Restaurant, located at 7805 W. Lincoln Highway. The second was for Dimitri Best Food Frankfort, operating in the Harlem Crossings subdivision at 19866 S. Harlem Avenue. For both establishments, the special use permit is a required step for obtaining a liquor license, which is necessary to offer video gaming.

All three applications had previously received unanimous recommendations for approval from the Will County Planning and Zoning Commission and the county’s Land Use and Development Committee before the final vote by the full board.
