WATCH: Trump ends funding for cashless bail policies, hedges on Guard deployment to Chicago
(The Center Square) – In today’s edition of Illinois in Focus Daily, The Center Square Editor Greg Bishop shares some of the debate around President Donald Trump’s executive order ending federal tax funds for cashless bail policies like Illinois’ and the push back from proponents of the state’s Pretrial Fairness Act.
Bishop also airs the back-and-forth over whether President Donald Trump will send in the National Guard to Chicago, as he hedges whether to wait for officials to ask. Gov. J.B. Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson responded.
Finally, Bishop talks live with Illinois state Rep. Patrick Sheehan, R-Homer Glen, about the impact of Illinois’ cashless bail policies on public safety and police moral, and what Republicans think should happen with the law.
