  • Cost Savings: The district is purchasing repurposed stone from Joliet Asphalt for shoulder work, which is less expensive than standard road mix.

The Jackson Township Board received a progress report from Highway Commissioner Walsh on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, covering equipment acquisitions and regional road construction issues.

Commissioner Walsh confirmed that the township’s new International truck has been manufactured and is currently on the lot. The vehicle is in the process of being transferred to Kankakee Truck and Equipment, where final accessories will be added.

Regarding road maintenance materials, Walsh reported that the district has been purchasing invoices for Joliet Asphalt. The district is utilizing repurposed stone from the company for shoulder stone, noting that the material is currently less expensive than road mix.

Walsh also addressed regional infrastructure projects managed by outside agencies. He reported receiving an email from the county engineer indicating that the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) is proceeding with the Route 53 construction project, which is currently in the design and engineering phases.

Additionally, Walsh provided information regarding Millsdale Road. He stated that two months ago, he received a call from the City of Joliet announcing plans to block off Millsdale Road as a result of the Northpoint/Centerpoint agreement. Walsh informed the board that he has received no further information or specific timeline regarding when this closure will occur.
