JOLIET, IL – The Will County Board Executive Committee on Thursday, November 13, 2025, advanced an intergovernmental agreement with the Village of Frankfort to provide assistance with wildlife rabies control. The two-year agreement authorizes Will County Animal Protection Services to respond to specific wildlife calls within the village.

Under the terms of the agreement, which was previously approved by the Frankfort Village Board on October 20, 2025, county personnel will respond to calls from Frankfort’s police department for situations requiring rabies control measures. This includes responding to bats found in the living space of a residence or containing wild mammals—such as skunks, raccoons, foxes, and coyotes—that have bitten a human or a companion animal.

The county will bill the village for services rendered. A standard wildlife call-out between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on weekdays will cost $200, while a call for a dangerous animal during the same hours is set at $300. After-hours calls will range from $350 to $500.

The agreement specifies that calls for sick, injured, or nuisance wildlife not related to a potential rabies exposure will be referred to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources or private wildlife trappers.

The agreement will be effective from September 1, 2025, through September 1, 2027, unless terminated earlier by either party with a 90-day written notice. The resolution will now go to the full Will County Board for final approval.
