The Will County Land Use and Development Committee on Thursday, Dec. 4, 2025, recommended approval for a special use permit to allow used car sales at 202 Ford Drive in New Lenox Township.

The property, located in the Cedar Industrial Park, currently houses a landscape business and motor vehicle repair shop. The applicant, Michael Veugeler, requested the permit to add used car sales to the site.

The Village of New Lenox submitted a letter of non-objection but requested several conditions, including a requirement that the entire outdoor storage area be paved with a hard surface like concrete or asphalt.

Veugeler told the committee he intended to pave the front areas but requested to use asphalt grindings (chips) for the rear storage area to reduce costs, noting that heavy landscape trailers would be stored there.

“I didn’t feel like that was necessary [to pave the back],” Veugeler said regarding the 1.4-acre site.

The committee agreed to a compromise. They amended the conditions to require that all vehicles associated with the sale, service, and rental operation must be parked on a hard surface, while allowing the landscaping trailers in the rear to remain on asphalt chips.

The motion to approve the special use permit with the amended conditions passed unanimously.
