Manhattan Village Board Meeting | December 16, 2025

Article Summary: The Manhattan Village Board on Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2025, approved the purchase of a new 2024 Kubota RTV-X1100CWL-H with a plow package. The utility vehicle will be used by the Public Works Department to maintain downtown sidewalks and hard-to-access locations during winter events.

Manhattan Village Board Key Points:

  • Total Cost: The board authorized a net expenditure of $26,326.52 from McCullough Implement Company.

  • Trade-In: The village received a $4,650 trade-in credit for a 2021 Intimidator GC1K 4×4 UTV.

  • Operational Need: Public Works officials stated the existing unit had become unreliable and costly to repair, prompting the need for a compact, reliable replacement for sidewalk maintenance and pond drainage projects.

The Manhattan Village Board on Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2025, voted unanimously to authorize the purchase of a new 2024 Kubota RTV for $26,326.52. The decision followed a recommendation from Superintendent of Public Works John Tyk, who highlighted the increasing maintenance costs of the village’s current equipment.

According to a board memorandum, the village traded in a 2021 Intimidator UTV that had 1,202 miles and 266 engine hours. Tyk reported that the older unit continued to break down, resulting in multiple repair costs over the past year.

“The new RTV will be used for plowing sidewalks in the downtown area, as well as other narrow or hard-to-access locations,” Tyk noted in the request. The vehicle will also support general maintenance tasks and pond drainage projects.

The resolution authorized the purchase from McCullough Implement Company, based in Watseka, Illinois. The total package price of $30,976.52 was offset by the $4,650 trade-in allowance for the existing unit.

During the meeting, trustees expressed their support for providing the Public Works staff with reliable equipment to handle winter weather. The board moved through the item quickly, as no trustees requested the resolution be pulled from the agenda for further debate.
