Manhattan 114 Approves Insurance Renewal Amidst Cost Increases
Manhattan School District 114 Meeting | Jan. 14, 2026
Article Summary: The Manhattan School District approved a renewal of its comprehensive insurance package despite a substantial increase in premiums. The finance committee noted difficulties in finding viable alternative carriers in the current market.
Insurance Renewal Key Points:
-
Total Premium: The renewal with RAMZA Insurance Group totals $365,727.
-
Coverage: The package includes property, liability, automobiles, cyber liability, school board legal, and workers’ compensation.
-
Deductible Hike: The deductible for school board legal coverage doubled from $50,000 to $100,000.
The Manhattan School District 114 Board of Education on Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2026, approved a renewal of the district’s insurance coverage with RAMZA Insurance Group, facing what Board President John Burke described as “substantial” cost increases.
The total premium for the 12-month renewal is $365,727. Burke noted that the “trend continues” regarding rising insurance costs for the district.
“One of the challenges… specific to our district, [is] we’re having a hard time finding other viable solutions,” Burke said, reporting on discussions from the Finance Committee.
In addition to the premium hike, the district’s deductible for school board legal issues has increased significantly, jumping to $100,000 from the previous $50,000. This change means the district will face higher out-of-pocket costs in the event of litigation.
The renewal was approved unanimously by a roll call vote.
