Manhattan School District 114 Meeting | Jan. 14, 2026

The Manhattan School District 114 Board of Education met on Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2026, to conduct its first business of the new year. In addition to restructuring its committee meetings and approving insurance renewals, the board celebrated student achievements in athletics and received updates on financial software and district growth.

Large Donations Accepted: The board formally accepted two generous gifts exceeding the $500 threshold. The Manhattan Band Boosters donated a commission of a musical composition in honor of Danny Bales, valued at approximately $3,200. Additionally, the Rago family donated $1,000 each to the classrooms of teachers Mrs. Tulie, Mrs. Pierce, and Ms. Lyons, totaling $3,000.

Wrestling Team Victory: During the administrator reports, it was announced that the Manhattan Junior High wrestling team took first place out of 27 teams at a tournament in Bloomington over winter break. They also secured a second-place finish at the Homer invite out of 29 teams.

New Financial Software: The Finance Committee reported on a demonstration of “Frontline Analytics,” a new software tool being implemented by the district. Board President John Burke noted the software provides powerful year-over-year analytics and peer comparisons with other districts, which will assist the board in tracking expenses and trends more efficiently.

Calendar Committee Formed: Superintendent Dr. Rusty Hearn reported that a new calendar committee, comprised of a balance of teachers and administrators, met on Jan. 8. The committee aims to present a draft of a “balanced” district calendar to the board for the February meeting.

Admin Reports: Administrators reported that the new “Myth” app is being used by 427 students with 308 accounts being followed. Additionally, two new clubs—Craft Club and E-Club—have launched at the junior high, with high student interest reported.

Scholastic Bowl: The Scholastic Bowl season has begun with 20 students participating, following a state runner-up finish last year.

Next Meeting: The next regular board meeting is scheduled for Feb. 11, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. at the Manhattan District Office.
