Pettit Homers, Four Pitchers Combine for Shutout as Lincoln-Way West Blanks Riverside-Brookfield, 9-0
The Lincoln-Way West varsity baseball team put together a complete performance on Thursday, pairing an explosive offense with a stifling combined shutout to roll past visiting Riverside-Brookfield, 9-0, in non-conference action.
The Warriors wasted no time establishing control, jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. They kept their foot on the gas, plating two more runs in both the second and third innings to build a commanding 7-0 advantage. Two late insurance runs in the sixth capped the scoring, while a flawless defensive effort—highlighted by zero errors on the day—ensured the visitors never found a way back into the contest.
Michael Pettit was the primary catalyst for the Lincoln-Way West lineup. He provided the fireworks with a home run, finishing 1-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs. Carson Paulas consistently found his way on base, going 2-for-3 and scoring twice to set the table. Jackson Mansker contributed an RBI double, while Matt Oberts chipped in with two RBIs to keep the lineup churning. Luke Tyrakowski also had a perfect day at the plate, going 1-for-1 with two walks and a run scored.
On the mound, a quartet of Lincoln-Way West pitchers seamlessly navigated the Riverside-Brookfield lineup to secure the five-hit shutout. Starter Kellen Schulte earned the victory, tossing three scoreless innings. Schulte scattered four hits and worked around two walks while striking out four to set the tone early.
The bullpen took over from there and completely shut the door. Jacob Howard pitched a flawless fourth inning, and Emmett Carlson followed with two dominant frames, striking out three while allowing just one hit. Jakob Harmon closed out the seventh inning with a strikeout, retiring the side in order to finalize the 9-0 victory.
