Lincoln-Way West Pitching Throws Perfect Three Innings in 15-0 Rout of Joliet West
The Lincoln-Way West varsity softball team delivered a flawless performance on Friday afternoon, combining a perfect game in the circle with a relentless offensive attack to defeat host Joliet West 15-0 in a three-inning, non-conference matchup.
Lincoln-Way West pitchers completely overpowered the Joliet West lineup, retiring all nine batters they faced in order. The hosts failed to muster a single baserunner, striking out five times over the three abbreviated innings.
While the Lincoln-Way West pitching staff was busy tossing a perfect game, their offense was equally destructive. The visitors wasted no time seizing control, erupting for four runs in the top of the first inning. They continued to apply pressure, adding three runs in the second before breaking the game wide open with a massive eight-run surge in the third inning to comfortably trigger the run rule.
Joliet West struggled to find its footing defensively, which severely compounded the pitching staff’s challenges. The hosts committed six fielding errors over the course of the afternoon, extending innings and providing Lincoln-Way West with countless extra opportunities.
Olivia Horn took the loss for Joliet West, exiting after allowing six hits and four earned runs in the first inning. Laci Cole stepped in to record the final two outs of the opening frame but surrendered three earned runs on two hits and three walks. Gabriela Juarez provided the most effective relief for the hosts, pitching the final two innings. Despite allowing eight runs on four hits, all of the damage against Juarez was unearned due to the flurry of defensive miscues behind her.
As a team, Lincoln-Way West racked up 12 hits and played a completely clean game in the field with zero errors, showcasing a complete and dominant performance from top to bottom.
