Lincoln-Way West Outlasts Marysville 6-5 in Eight-Inning Thriller

The Lincoln-Way West varsity baseball team secured a dramatic 6-5 walk-off victory over Marysville (OH) in an eight-inning, neutral-site battle on Thursday afternoon. After watching a mid-game lead slip away, the Warriors regrouped and delivered in the clutch, pushing the winning run across the plate in the bottom of the eighth to end the contest.

The back-and-forth affair began early, with both teams trading single runs in the first inning. Marysville briefly claimed a 3-1 advantage after plating a pair of runs in the top of the third, but the Warriors’ offense immediately roared to life in the bottom half of the frame.

Lincoln-Way West erupted for four runs in the third inning, swinging the momentum completely back in their favor to take a 5-3 lead. Owen Weber delivered the heaviest blows for the Warriors, finishing the afternoon 2-for-3 with a double and a game-high three RBIs. Michael Pettit was a near-constant presence on the basepaths, going 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI, and a run scored from the top of the order. Jackson Mansker also contributed a crucial multi-hit performance, tallying two hits and an RBI.

Despite the deficit, Marysville refused to go quietly. Taking advantage of free passes and a few Lincoln-Way West defensive miscues, the visitors slowly chipped away at the lead. Marysville scratched across a run in the fifth inning and tied the game at 5-5 with another run in the top of the sixth.

The Warriors’ pitching staff, however, buckled down when the pressure peaked. Despite issuing 12 walks as a staff, the trio of Adam Redmond, Luke Gouty, and Luke Stoner managed the traffic masterfully, holding Marysville to just five hits while striking out 10.

Stoner was exceptional in relief, earning the victory after tossing the final 3.2 innings. He allowed zero earned runs on three hits and struck out five, keeping the Marysville bats silent through the seventh and top of the eighth innings. His stellar performance on the mound set the stage for Lincoln-Way West to manufacture the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth, sending the Warriors home with a hard-fought 6-5 win.
