Lincoln-Way West Powers Past Cross-Town Rival Lincoln-Way Central in 11-1 Run-Rule Victory

The Lincoln-Way West varsity softball team utilized a potent, power-heavy offensive attack and flawless defense to defeat visiting Lincoln-Way Central 11-1 in a five-inning conference matchup on Thursday afternoon.

Despite falling behind 1-0 in the top of the second inning, Lincoln-Way West immediately answered and never looked back. The home team erupted for three runs in the bottom of the second, added two in the third, and broke the game wide open with a four-run fourth inning. They capped the afternoon with a pair of runs in the fifth to secure the run-rule victory.

Though individual statistics for Lincoln-Way West were not reported, the team’s collective dominance at the plate was evident. The lineup produced nine total hits and punished Lincoln-Way Central pitching with three home runs. Displaying solid plate discipline, the home team drew four walks and capitalized on a pair of defensive errors by the visitors. Defensively, Lincoln-Way West cleanly fielded the ball all afternoon, committing zero errors to support their pitching staff.

Lincoln-Way Central managed just four hits in the contest. Junior Juno Lundquist provided the offensive highlight for the visitors, driving in the team’s lone run with a second-inning double. Reina took the loss in the circle for Lincoln-Way Central. She pitched three innings, allowing five runs—only two of which were earned—on five hits while striking out a pair. Sophomore Madelyn Lanigan and senior Lauren Podkul also saw time in the circle as the visitors tried to navigate the relentless Lincoln-Way West lineup.

The decisive victory secures an important conference win for Lincoln-Way West as they continue their season against local rivals.
