The Lincoln-Way West boys’ track and field team showcased its elite top-end talent on Saturday, April 11, bringing home eight individual flight championships at the highly competitive Best 4 Invitational hosted by Wheaton North.

Competing in a unique format that divides athletes into A, B, C, and D varsity flights, the Warriors proved they possess some of the premier athletes in the region. Lincoln-Way West placed third in the premier Varsity A division with 45 points, trailing only Roselle Lake Park (55) and Glen Ellyn Glenbard West (49). Across all four combined flights, the Warriors compiled 105 points to finish sixth overall in a meet ultimately won by Lake Park (196).

The Warriors’ track attack was headlined by a trio of impressive Varsity A victories. Anthony Lusciatti scorched the track with a personal-best 38.18 to win the 300-meter intermediate hurdles. Hunter Spee delivered a personal record of his own in the 400-meter dash, breaking the tape in 50.33. Distance specialist Nicholas Dul rounded out the top-flight running victories for Lincoln-Way West, capturing gold in the 3200-meter run with a time of 9:37.62. Dul also added a fourth-place finish in the 1600 meters (4:34.40).

Braydon McNulty contributed a pair of top-tier medals for the Warriors, earning silver in the Varsity A 200-meter dash with a personal-best 22.55 and taking bronze in the 110-meter high hurdles (14.76). Lusciatti and Spee later teamed up with Brandon Wolf and Nick Skala to secure a bronze medal in the Varsity A 4×400 relay, crossing the line in 3:36.35.

Lincoln-Way West was equally formidable in the field events, collecting five flight championships across the jumps and throws. Jack Drozdek vaulted to a personal-best 4.19 meters to win the Varsity A pole vault title, while Evan Schultz matched the team’s vertical success by winning the Varsity D pole vault (3.89m).

In the throwing rings, Reilly Kliros claimed the Varsity B shot put title with a heave of 15.09 meters. Broden Newman added a gold medal in the Varsity B discus, launching a 46.71-meter throw while also picking up a fourth-place finish in the Varsity A shot put.

The Warriors’ horizontal and high jumpers also delivered.
