Schulte’s Complete-Game Gem, Extra-Base Hits Lift Lincoln-Way West Past East 3-1

A dominant complete-game pitching performance by Kellen Schulte and a barrage of extra-base hits propelled the Lincoln-Way West varsity baseball team to a 3-1 conference victory over rival Lincoln-Way East on Monday afternoon.

Schulte was the undeniable anchor for the host Warriors, navigating through the Lincoln-Way East lineup with precision. The right-hander tossed all seven innings, allowing just one run on five scattered hits. He struck out six batters and issued only two walks on a highly efficient 92 pitches.

When Lincoln-Way East did manage to put runners on base, the Lincoln-Way West defense was ready. The Warriors executed two crucial double plays behind Schulte to abruptly end scoring threats and maintain their narrow lead.

At the plate, Lincoln-Way West maximized its five hits by making sure they counted for extra bases. Jacob Howard provided a massive spark, launching a solo home run and drawing a walk in his two plate appearances. Michael Pettit ignited the basepaths with a triple and a run scored, while Carson Paulas laced a double and crossed the plate once. Jackson Mansker served as the primary run producer, driving in a game-high two runs with a key base hit.

Lincoln-Way East pitching held the Warriors to a .217 team batting average, but the timely hitting and power output proved to be the difference maker. The Griffins managed five hits of their own against Schulte but struggled to string them together, ultimately pushing across just a single run in the tightly contested conference battle.
