Heinlen’s Complete Game, Explosive Offense Propel Lincoln-Way West Past Homewood-Flossmoor 16-1
The Lincoln-Way West varsity baseball team delivered a commanding performance on Thursday, combining a relentless offensive attack with highly efficient pitching to defeat host Homewood-Flossmoor 16-1 in a five-inning conference matchup.
The Warriors (25-26) set the tone early and never let up, tallying 14 hits and scoring in all five frames. They consistently applied pressure to a Vikings defense that struggled to find its footing, ultimately committing five errors. Michael Pettit anchored the Lincoln-Way West lineup, launching a home run and driving in a team-high four runs on a 2-for-5 day at the plate.
Lincoln-Way West saw production from top to bottom. Owen Weber provided a reliable spark, going 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Carson Paulas added two hits and drove in three. The Warriors also received multi-hit efforts from Max Silic, Luke Tyrakowski, and Luke Stoner, who doubled and scored twice. Aggressive baserunning further tilted the game in the visitors’ favor, as Lincoln-Way West successfully swiped five bases to constantly put runners in scoring position.
On the mound, Jackson Heinlen was in complete control. The pitcher earned the complete-game victory, needing just 54 pitches to navigate his five innings of work. He allowed only one earned run on three scattered hits, striking out three batters and issuing a single walk.
Homewood-Flossmoor scratched across its lone run in the bottom of the second inning, briefly cutting the deficit to 5-1. However, the Vikings could not sustain any momentum against Heinlen’s precise command, and the Warriors responded with 11 unanswered runs over the final three innings to trigger the run rule and seal the decisive road victory.
