Early Offensive Surge Propels Lincoln-Way West Past Oswego 11-4

The Lincoln-Way West varsity baseball team brought its bats early and often on Saturday, racing out to a commanding lead to secure an 11-4 non-conference road victory over Oswego.

Lincoln-Way West set the tone immediately, hanging a four-spot on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning. Oswego answered back with a resilient three-run bottom of the first to keep things close, but the visitors continued to ruthlessly apply pressure. Lincoln-Way West added two runs in the second and two more in the third, extending their advantage to 8-3 before putting the game fully out of reach with a three-run burst in the fifth.

The visitors’ offense tallied 11 hits and capitalized on three Oswego fielding errors. Max Silic anchored the relentless attack, going a stellar 3-for-4 at the plate, scoring twice, and driving in a pair of runs. Luke Stoner and Carson Paulas also delivered multi-hit performances, each collecting two hits, while Paulas created chaos on the basepaths by swiping two of the team’s five stolen bases. Owen Weber contributed an incredibly efficient day at the plate, reaching base three times with a hit and two hit-by-pitches while driving in a run and scoring once.

On the mound, Stoner earned the win for Lincoln-Way West. The right-hander navigated through four solid innings, scattering six hits and allowing three earned runs while striking out four batters without issuing a single walk.

The bullpen took over from there to securely shut the door on the hosts. Luke Gouty, Jakob Harmon, and Lincoln Welsh each tossed an inning of relief, combining to allow just one unearned run and one hit over the final three frames. Gouty induced soft contact during his inning, Harmon worked around a walk to toss a hitless frame, and Welsh closed out the seventh inning with a flawless, hitless effort that included a strikeout.
