Lincoln-Way West Holds Off Lockport 3-2 in Tense Conference Clash
The Lincoln-Way West varsity softball team claimed a narrow 3-2 road conference victory over Lockport on Monday, relying on timely hitting to fend off a late rally by the hosts.
Lincoln-Way West broke the scoreless tie in the top of the third inning, plating a pair of runs to take early control of the contest. The visitors later extended their lead with what proved to be a vital insurance run in the sixth inning, finishing the afternoon with 10 total hits and finding just enough gaps to secure the win.
Despite taking the hard-luck loss, senior Bridget Faut delivered a strong complete-game performance in the circle for Lockport. She scattered 10 hits over seven innings, allowing three earned runs while striking out seven batters and issuing just two walks. Lockport’s defense backed her up with a flawless effort, committing zero errors on the day to keep the game well within reach.
Offensively, Lockport struggled to break through until the late innings. Junior Coley Sievers provided a massive spark for the hosts, blasting a solo home run to get Lockport on the board in the bottom of the fifth.
Trailing 3-1 entering the final frame, Lockport threatened to mount a comeback. The hosts pushed across one run in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI by senior A. VanderTuuk, but the rally ultimately fell just short as Lincoln-Way West clamped down to secure the final outs. VanderTuuk and senior G. DiCiolla led the Lockport attack with two hits apiece.
