Lincoln-Way West Maximizes Opportunities to Walk Off Homewood-Flossmoor 4-3

The Lincoln-Way West varsity baseball team showcased maximum efficiency and late-game resilience on Monday, overcoming a quiet day at the plate to secure a dramatic 4-3 walk-off conference victory over Homewood-Flossmoor.

Homewood-Flossmoor controlled the early portions of the contest, plating a run in the second inning and adding single runs in the fifth and sixth to build a 3-0 advantage. Lincoln-Way West struggled to generate offense against the visitors’ pitching staff, mustering only two hits all afternoon. However, disciplined patience at the plate kept the hosts in the game, as they drew seven walks to constantly apply pressure on the basepaths.

The momentum finally shifted in the bottom of the sixth inning. Facing a three-run deficit, Lincoln-Way West’s patience culminated in a clutch three-run outburst to suddenly tie the game at 3-3. Quinten Lange and Luke Tyrakowski delivered the crucial RBIs for the hosts during the comeback effort, with Tyrakowski bringing home a run via a sacrifice fly.

After holding Homewood-Flossmoor scoreless in the top of the seventh, Lincoln-Way West went to work in the bottom half of the frame. The hosts successfully manufactured the game-winning run, sealing the 4-3 victory despite their unconventional path to the win. Michael Pettit and Carson Paulas recorded the only two hits for Lincoln-Way West, while Pettit also reached base twice via walks, stole a base, and scored a key run.

On the mound, Emmett Carlson earned the victory in relief, tossing the final three innings. The right-hander allowed just one earned run on two hits while striking out two and walking one. Starting pitcher Kellen Schulte kept the team within striking distance during his four innings of work, striking out five batters while allowing two earned runs on four hits.
