Lincoln-Way West Avenges Loss with 16-6 Run-Rule Rout of Sandburg

Spread the love

Bouncing back in emphatic fashion, the Lincoln-Way West varsity baseball team exacted immediate revenge on Thursday afternoon, utilizing a massive 10-run third inning to overpower visiting Sandburg 16-6 in a shortened, five-inning conference victory.

Just one day after suffering a narrow walk-off defeat to the Eagles, the Warriors (26-26) left nothing to chance. Lincoln-Way West showcased relentless plate discipline and aggressive baserunning, capitalizing on 10 hits, eight walks, three hit batsmen, and five uncharacteristic Sandburg fielding errors to put the game out of reach early.

The Warriors established a 2-1 advantage after the first inning, but the contest broke wide open in the bottom of the third. Sending batter after batter to the plate, Lincoln-Way West systematically dismantled the Sandburg pitching staff to push across 10 runs in the frame. They followed up the historic surge with a three-run fourth inning and invoked the run-rule threshold with a final tally in the bottom of the fifth.

Carson Paulas paced the potent Lincoln-Way West offense, delivering a standout 3-for-4 performance at the plate with two runs scored and two RBIs. Peyton Globke was a perfect 2-for-2, lacing a double, drawing two walks, and driving in a pair of runs while scoring twice himself. Jackson Mansker also served as a critical offensive catalyst, going 2-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI. Michael Pettit continually set the table at the top of the lineup, scoring three runs, drawing a walk, and swiping a base. Jacob Howard contributed a double and two RBIs to the onslaught.

On the mound, Howard earned the victory for the Warriors. The starter worked 3.1 innings, striking out six Sandburg batters while allowing four runs (two earned) on four hits. When Sandburg attempted to mount a rally with a four-run fourth inning, reliever Lincoln Welsh stepped in to record a pair of strikeouts. Emmett Carlson closed the door in the fifth, tossing a scoreless inning with two strikeouts to seal the dominant 16-6 win.

With the victory, Lincoln-Way West proves its ability to rebound quickly and strike with overwhelming offensive firepower in conference play.
