Pitching Duo Dominates as Lincoln-Way West Baseball Edges Oak Forest 4-2
Relying on a stifling pitching performance and timely late-game execution, the Lincoln-Way West varsity baseball team secured a gritty 4-2 non-conference road victory over Oak Forest on Saturday afternoon.
After two scoreless frames to open the contest, both teams traded pairs of runs in the third inning to knot the score at 2-2. The Warriors (25-26) eventually broke the deadlock in the top of the sixth inning with a crucial go-ahead run, followed by an insurance tally in the seventh to put the game out of reach. Despite recording only five hits and one official RBI on the afternoon, Lincoln-Way West capitalized on situational opportunities, aggressive baserunning, and two Oak Forest fielding errors to manufacture their four runs.
The story of the game was the Warriors’ exceptional work on the mound. The pitching duo of Owen Chudzinski and Adam Redmond combined to strike out 10 Oak Forest batters while refusing to allow a single earned run. Chudzinski earned the victory with a stellar outing, completely silencing the home team’s lineup over four scoreless innings. He surrendered just one hit, walked four, and racked up seven strikeouts. Redmond was equally resilient during his three innings of work, striking out three and yielding just three hits and two unearned runs.
Offensively, Peyton Globke drove in the Warriors’ lone official RBI with a sacrifice fly. Jacob Howard delivered the team’s only extra-base hit, lacing a double in a 1-for-3 performance. Carson Paulas consistently applied pressure on the basepaths, drawing two walks and stealing two bases. Max Silic also made an impact off the bench, adding a walk, a stolen base, and a run scored. Michael Pettit, Jackson Mansker, Owen Weber, and Quinten Lange each recorded a hit, while Pettit, Mansker, and Matt Oberts crossed the plate to round out the Lincoln-Way West scoring.
The hard-fought 4-2 win demonstrates Lincoln-Way West’s ability to grind out close, low-scoring battles as they look to build momentum outside of their conference schedule.
