Schulte Tosses One-Hit Shutout as Lincoln-Way West Blanks Bradley-Bourbonnais 12-0
The Lincoln-Way West varsity baseball team cruised to a dominant 12-0 conference victory over host Bradley-Bourbonnais on Monday afternoon, pairing an overpowering performance on the mound with an explosive offensive showcase that ended the game in five innings via the run rule.
Starting pitcher Kellen Schulte was virtually untouchable, spinning a brilliant complete-game one-hitter. Schulte operated with supreme efficiency, needing just 73 pitches to navigate five flawless innings. He struck out six Bradley-Bourbonnais batters and issued zero walks, keeping the home team entirely off-balance from the first pitch to the last. The Warriors’ defense backed him up perfectly, playing error-free baseball throughout the contest.
At the plate, Lincoln-Way West provided Schulte with more than enough run support, racking up 10 hits and breaking the game wide open early. After a scoreless first inning, the Warriors erupted for five runs in the top of the second. They effectively put the game out of reach in the third inning, sending a parade of hitters to the plate to plate six additional runs before capping the scoring with a final run in the fourth.
Michael Pettit provided the loudest swing of the afternoon, launching a home run and finishing 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run scored. Matt Oberts was perfect at the plate, going 2-for-2 while driving in three runs, drawing a walk, and stealing a base. Kevin Thatcher also delivered a highly productive performance, finishing 1-for-2 with two RBIs, two runs scored, and a stolen base.
The Warriors showcased their power across the lineup, with Quinten Lange lacing a triple and Jacob Howard ripping a double as part of his 2-for-3 day. Peyton Globke contributed to the offensive clinic with exceptional plate discipline, drawing two walks and driving in a run with a sacrifice fly, while Kaden Killeen made his presence felt on the basepaths by scoring twice and stealing a bag.
With the resounding victory, Lincoln-Way West continues to prove its ability to overwhelm conference opponents with complete, well-rounded performances in all phases of the game.
