The Lincoln-Way West varsity softball team delivered a commanding 11-0 conference victory over cross-town rival Lincoln-Way Central on Friday afternoon, utilizing a relentless 13-hit attack and capitalizing heavily on the home team’s defensive struggles.

Lincoln-Way West seized control of the game immediately. The visitors pounced in the top of the first inning, scoring four runs to quickly put Lincoln-Way Central in a deep hole. The early surge set the tone for the afternoon, as Lincoln-Way West continued to systematically add to its lead while maintaining a flawless defensive effort of its own.

Lincoln-Way Central’s defense was uncharacteristically sloppy, committing seven errors over the course of the seven-inning contest. These miscues proved incredibly costly, extending innings and allowing Lincoln-Way West to score six unearned runs. The visitors added two runs in the third inning, a single run in the fourth, and a pair of runs in both the fifth and seventh innings to complete the 11-0 blowout.

Despite the lopsided score, Lincoln-Way Central’s pitching staff managed to navigate significant traffic on the basepaths. Jenna Lee took the start for the home team, allowing six runs—only three of them earned—on six hits over two innings, striking out one. Madelyn Lanigan entered in relief and tossed five innings, striking out two and yielding five runs (two earned) on seven hits.

Offensively, Lincoln-Way Central struggled to string together opportunities against Lincoln-Way West’s lock-down pitching. Audrey Hennings led the home team with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate and a stolen base. Carly Karales and Jenna Lee both added doubles for Lincoln-Way Central, while Hope Davis, Mia Degliomini, and Erin Byrne each tallied a single.

The Lincoln-Way West pitching staff was dominant, tossing a combined seven-inning shutout. They allowed just seven hits and did not walk a single batter, striking out four to keep the Lincoln-Way Central offense from gaining any momentum.
