Jackson Township Board Meeting | March 11, 2026

Article Summary: Jackson Township officials announced a robust schedule of spring community initiatives, highlighted by an expanded food basket distribution program and early planning for the upcoming Route 66 100-year anniversary celebration.

Jackson Township Community Outreach Key Points:

  • The township will distribute food baskets to 27 registered families on the morning of March 28.

  • Officials have signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Will County Center for Community Concerns.

  • The township will participate in the historic Route 66 “Red Carpet” corridor event scheduled for early May.

The Jackson Township Board on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, outlined a series of upcoming community outreach efforts, detailing local food assistance programs, intergovernmental partnerships, and the township’s planned involvement in a regional historic celebration.

Delivering the monthly Town Report, officials confirmed that the township’s local food basket program is actively growing. Baskets are scheduled to be handed out to residents on March 28 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Currently, 27 families are officially signed up to receive the provisions.

In a related effort to expand local support services, the township announced it has signed a new Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Will County Center for Community Concerns. While the specific terms of the MOU were not detailed in the meeting materials, the partnership aligns with the township’s broader community assistance goals. The board also noted it will be providing cups for upcoming Senior Luncheons.

With the Illinois primary election approaching the following Tuesday, Supervisor Matt Robbins informed the board that he had communicated with local official Fred Hayes. Together, they have arranged to help provide food for the election judges working the polls.

Looking ahead to the spring tourism season, the township is preparing to celebrate regional history. According to the minutes, Theresa Walsh contacted Supervisor Robbins to inform him that the “Red Carpet” event—a popular corridor tour—will be coming through the area on May 1 and May 2 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of historic Route 66.

The board expressed enthusiasm for the centennial milestone, noting that “if there is an event, we will participate.” Township officials scheduled a separate planning meeting for the following Wednesday to organize their specific involvement in the Route 66 festivities.
