The Lincoln-Way West varsity softball team unleashed a relentless offensive barrage on Wednesday, blasting five home runs to decisively defeat visiting Stagg 18-2 in conference play.

The Warriors established their dominance early and never let up, capitalizing on 15 hits and six walks over a shortened four-inning game. Lincoln-Way West opened the contest with a two-run first inning, set the tone with a six-run surge in the second, and ultimately put the game out of reach with a commanding 10-run explosion in the bottom of the third. Furthermore, the Warriors’ defense played flawlessly behind a dominant pitching performance that racked up eight strikeouts while holding Stagg to just two hits.

Despite the lopsided outcome, Stagg found a brief spark in the top of the second inning. Following a walk by sophomore A. Composono, freshman Molly Hackett stepped to the plate and delivered the visitors’ lone highlight of the afternoon, launching a two-run home run to put Stagg on the board. Sophomore Dorian Urquizo recorded the only other hit for the Chargers, finishing 1-for-2 at the plate.

Stagg pitchers Grace DeYoung and Sahaara Ayers struggled to quiet the explosive Lincoln-Way West lineup. DeYoung tossed 2.1 innings, surrendering 10 hits and 13 runs while being tagged for four home runs. Ayers pitched two-thirds of an inning, giving up five runs on five hits, including one home run.

With the decisive victory, Lincoln-Way West firmly asserts its offensive capabilities in conference play, while Stagg (25-26) will look to regroup and find consistency in the circle moving forward.
