Lincoln-Way West Rallies to Edge Lincoln-Way Central in 10-8 Victory
In a high-scoring conference showdown on Friday, the Lincoln-Way West varsity baseball team mounted a critical mid-game rally to secure a 10-8 home victory over Lincoln-Way Central.
The Knights struck early, taking an initial lead, but the momentum shifted dramatically in the bottom of the third inning. Lincoln-Way West exploded for seven runs, turning a narrow deficit into a commanding 9-1 lead. While Lincoln-Way Central answered back with a six-run rally in the fourth to pull within striking distance, the Warriors’ pitching staff and defense stabilized to hold off the late charge.
Michael Pettit provided the power for the Warriors, driving in four runs, including a home run. Matt Oberts also contributed significantly with a homer and two RBIs, while Carson Paulas added a pair of hits and two RBIs.
On the mound, Owen Chudzinski worked 3.2 innings, striking out five to help preserve the lead, and Jackson Heinlen closed out the final two innings to seal the win. Despite the Knights’ persistent offensive effort—which included 13 hits and two home runs from Conor McCabe and Daniel Houston—Lincoln-Way West’s timely hitting proved to be the difference in a hard-fought conference battle.
