Illinois Quick Hits: Proposal would allow two-year, online car registration
(The Center Square) – Illinois House Republican Leader Tony McCombie has filed legislation she says will make the vehicle registration process more efficient and accessible.
McCombie said House Bill 5767 would provide residents the option to renew a two-year registration sticker online.
The Savanna Republican said the bill builds on Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias’ efforts to improve customer service and modernize office operations.
ILLINOIS REPUBLICANS ELECT NEW LEADER
Former DuPage County auditor Bob Grogan says he is honored and humbled to be the next chair of the Illinois Republican Party.
The Illinois GOP’s state central committee elected Grogan over incumbent chair Kathy Salvi on Monday.
Illinois Democrats reelected state Rep. Lisa Hernandez, D-Cicero, as state party chair last month.
NORTHWESTERN HIRES NEW PRESIDENT FROM PURDUE
Northwestern University trustees have named Mung Chiang the school’s next president.
Chiang comes to Evanston from Purdue University, where he has served as president since January 2023.
Northwestern’s previous president, Michael Schill, stepped down last September, weeks after he announced the elimination of more than 400 staff positions.
Henry Bienen will remain NU’s interim president through the end of June.
BOULAY TO REPLACE HULTGREN AS ILLINOIS BANKERS HEAD
Illinois Manufacturing Excellence Center President David Boulay has been named the next president and CEO of the Illinois Bankers Association, starting June 8.
Boulay replaces former U.S. Rep. Randy Hultgren, who served in the role since 2020.
ZIGGY MARLEY TO PLAY ILLINOIS STATE FAIR
The Illinois State Fair is bringing reggae performer Ziggy Marley to the grandstand stage Aug. 18.
Tickets go on sale Saturday at 10 a.m. via Ticketmaster. The Illinois State Fair is scheduled from Aug. 13 through Aug. 23 in Springfield.
