Illinois quick hits: CUB challenges Ameren rate hike plan

Disaster proclaimed in three counties

A disaster proclamation has been issued for Cook, Jersey and Calhoun counties after severe weather last month.

Gov. J.B. Pritzker said the state proclamation provides the appropriate tools to support recovery and assists getting support from federal agencies.

Last month’s storm caused substantial flooding, resulting in widespread power outages, blocked roadways and property damage.

CUB challenges Ameren rate hike plan

The Citizens Utility Board is encouraging Ameren customers to attend Illinois Commerce Commission forums next week.

CUB says Ameren’s $131.1 million rate-hike plan is nearly triple what the utility could legally justify.

ICC forums are scheduled Wednesday evening in Springfield and Thursday evening in East St. Louis.

Classes start Monday at Illinois colleges

Monday, Aug. 25, is the first day of classes at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign along with Northern Illinois, Eastern Illinois and Western Illinois universities.

The fall semester opened last Monday at Illinois State and Southern Illinois.
