Manhattan Township Meeting | August 2025

The Manhattan Township Board took steps to address the growing interest in renewable energy at its meeting on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, by scheduling a special meeting to draft an ordinance for solar farm development. The board also heard positive news for senior taxpayers regarding a potential increase in the state’s Senior Freeze income threshold. For more details on these topics, please see our full-length articles.

In other business, a motion to support the Village of Manhattan’s holiday grant application passed on a divided 4-1 vote, and the board appointed a new representative to the township’s historical commission.

Special Meeting on Solar Farms: The board will hold a special meeting on Tuesday, August 19, at 6:00 p.m. to discuss and create an ordinance establishing requirements for solar energy facilities. The action comes in response to increasing developer interest in the township.

DCEO Grant Delayed: Township Clerk Kelly Baltas reported that a $30,000 DCEO grant for the township remains at a standstill. The grant application is still in the bond-release phase, a process handled by an outside agency that the township’s grant manager cannot expedite.

New Historical Commission Representative: The board announced it will appoint Kristen Blaser, the Assessor-Elect, to serve as its representative to the Manhattan Township Historical Commission.

Township Bills Approved: The board unanimously approved the finance reports and expenses for the Township Supervisor, Highway Commissioner, and Assessor. All bills presented were approved for payment.
